This is a list of all our horses, during your stay you will be allocated a horse suitable for your ability, height, weight & personal preference.
You will have the opportunity to change horses if you would like to try something a little different. All of our horses are forward going & responsive to give you an enjoyable ride.
You may notice the "Ladywood" prefix to some of our horses names, this signifies that they were either bred or bought as foals/yearlings & broken in by ourselves.
Ferdy
is a chestnut Hanoverian X 16.3 hh.
Ferdy is a quality horse & has mainly been used for dressage but
was also shown as a lightweight hunter & has been placed at county level.
Retired now from the showring he gives a lovely ride for the more experienced
rider used to competition horses, especially riders who have done dressage,
and again a school master for teaching on.
Dawn is a dark
bay New Forest X TB 14.3hh.
She used to be our lead horse, she's getting on a bit in years so is now retired from hacking, still used for teaching as she's a school mistress for beginners.
She is also ferdy's mum.
Sovereign is a chestnut TB
X 15.1 hh.
Suitable for experienced riders only, but mainly used as our lead horse.
Forward going lively ride, canter is not as fast as you'd expect from a TB but very balanced & comfortable.
Murphy
is a fleabitten grey Irish Draught X 15 hh.
Murphy is our weight carrier, can be a bit slow, (try him in spring and he's a different horse) but it depends on his mood, but he is NOT a plod, great for beginner to intermediate riders. Is a real character we call him affectionately our "Grumpy Old Man". He lives to eat!
Mercury is
a dark bay Standard Bred 15.3hh.
He was previously trained as a trotter but was never raced.
A safe ride for beginners aswell as a forward going comfortable easy ride for experienced riders as he has a lovely fast canter.
A real gentleman.
Rosie
is a black Shire X Welsh Cob 15.3hh.
A handsome mare with a really forward going stride & a powerful safe canter. She's got bags of presence and the more experienced riders will appreciate her.
Willow is a piebald Cob
X 15.2 hh.
8 years old, she was the baby of the bunch but has grown up now (Rosie's daughter).
She has a lovely temperament & is a really enjoyable ride.
She has really taken to jumping especially cross country.
Dolly is
a skewbald Cob type 14.1hh
She is a schoolmistress for novice riders & has become a real favourite with everyone who has ridden her.
Real confidence giver for jumping.
An enjoyable ride, safe but not slow.
Ladywood Cwm
CariadCarie is a chestnut Welsh Cob 13.3 hh.
Cariad means sweetheart in Welsh & that's just what she is..well most of the time, but we all have our off day's don't we girls!
Dewi is a black
Welsh Cob 14.1 hh.
Dewi is welsh for David and is pronounced
"Dow-ee"
He has a typical Welsh Cob action, even when he's going flat out he doesn't cover any ground. Always looking around, sees everything that no one else can see & is a real creature of habit.
Has an adoring fan club from those who love him!
Pepe
is a silver dun part arab 13.3hh
Bought as a foal, we couldn't resist his good looks & charm even then.
He really is a little stunner.
Gives a light airy ride, trot & canter to die for,
walk a little lazy, beautiful jump.
Last year we had two new additions:
A black
New Forest x 13.3hh gelding.
He is a real sweetie loves hacking, has a really steady canter and loves to jump.
An asset to the herd and great childs pony.
Callie
is a bay Thoroughbred x ID 15.3hh mare.
She has a lovely soft mouth but little patience, likes to get on with things, but she's still learning her job here and the more experienced riders will love her.
Excellent at jumping/schoolwork for intermediate/experienced riders - very sensitive but paces to die for.
She has a lovely personality if a little neurotic at times...typical thoroughbred really.
Lastly not horses
but still part of the family,
"Fly" the sheep dog &
"Jools" the Cat

We have a flock of 30 speckled faced beulah sheep & lambs.
Our resident
cockerel is Quentin, we thought he was very "camp" as you should see his
comical run! it will have you in stitches. We have acquired some wives
for him last year and they have produced 5 chicks, 3 cockerels and 2 hens (not so camp any more!!).
They have turned out ok considereing that they are a very unusual
cross, Quentin is a large white sussex and the hens are very petite Peking
Bantams which have feathery legs, so they look like they have bloomers.
We've been adopted by a pair of Canada geese who have proudly produced 6 young last year (one more than the year before), they are the first wild birds to have made use of our lake and we hope they will be back this year.
